Review on Ultimate Precision: Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick for Windows by Jordan Rini

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Better get a cheaper Hotas system from CH or .

Got it for my DCS A10C experience. What can I say. with higher price comes quality. or at least that is to be expected from any high value product; this one does just that. For the price you pay, you get a HOTAS joystick that really enhances your flight sim experience. However, keep in mind that this won't do you much good if you prefer arcade/flight sims. Better get a cheaper Hotas system from CH or Saitek and that should work. However, if you want a hardcore experience in this genre, you can't beat it (at the moment). The reason it wasn't bought for a regular simulator is because it's primarily designed to feel like a real flight stick. This takes away from the smooth feeling you get when flying a jet in say BF4, Arma or even Elite Dangerous. The racquet is very stiff and requires quite a bit of strength to move, which can cause wrist/hand wear over long hours of play. So if you're ok with this issue or have a strong knack for dealing with long hours of stress, that's awesome! A NOTICE. It does NOT have the ability to rotate to steer. So if you plan to use it, get a good flight pedal. They're usually way cheaper than this beast. So if you have this, you already have a flight pedal by default. She really shines in the DCS world. Apart from the A10C, it is also great for other DCS modules. What's even better is that you can pair this joystick with another throttle brand. So a CH throttle with this knob might be a question if you want to keep the budget in check or get a feel for the mix and match type of setup. I am currently using it with a Saitek X52 throttle body and it works great with no issues. . Of course we'll soon be swapping out the X52 for a TM throttle to take full advantage of the simulator, but until then it serves as a good "transitional" joystick from a mediocre to advanced flight control system. If you have the money and/or are an avid flight sim lover, this is a must see. King of HOTAS (for now).

Pros
  • USB port and upgradeable firmware; Super Strong Weighted Joystick (over 6 pounds)
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.
