This device gives you more than you really need. It comes with all the individual parts; It's a base, a socket, and a real three-position switch. When I received it, I realized I just had to replace the switch itself. So I disassembled the existing block by unscrewing the socket from the base, pulled the switch out of the socket, replaced the switch (extremely easy) and reassembled the existing block. Works great. My existing knob fits this unit so my lamps fit perfectly. The base and sleeve in this device appear to be more fragile than the existing device. Also, there's no hole in the base for a set screw (which keeps the base from moving). My existing part has a set screw with a hole in the base for it. Do not disassemble the lamp until you receive this device. Leave the base and simply remove the sleeve. You will agree with my approach!
