Review on πŸ“Έ Godox 120cm Portable Octagon Softbox Umbrella Brolly Reflector: Enhance Speedlight Flash Photography by Eldrick Carlton

Neat Umbrella Mount Modifier

This is a deep silver reflex umbrella, usually with Velcro-fastened outer diffuser. It works with any flash on an umbrella swivel, but accessing the flash with the diffuser attached is tricky at best. You should use a slave radio with it, ideally one that allows remote control of the power settings. It goes perfectly with the Godox/Flashpoint AD360 (bare bulb, built in radio) and I tried it briefly to say I tried the Nikon SB800 - both worked well, the latter not overpowering of course. Therefore, most octaboxes that are mounted on the front of the fixture have an extra light baffle/diffuser inside, and this design doesn't allow for that (there won't be room). Also, most of the light on them isn't 100% reflected off the silver screen - just expect a slightly different "look". It's a decent modifier and I like it, but it has an upside. I wouldn't recommend this if you need extra softness. I have used the AD360 with an umbrella accessory (mostly with the reflector removed for better diffusion). Godox AD-S6 Portable Umbrella Reflector for Witstro AD180 AD360 (Silver + Black). Otherwise a traditional hinge will keep the light too far from the center (AD360 is quite large). I'll admit that the build quality isn't top notch. . The umbrella section seems solid enough, except for the slightly wobbly center stalk. the diffuser is cheap but it can probably be replaced or supplemented with another material as it is torn to shreds. The velcro has come loose in some places, but it's okay, isn't it? Because it costs next to nothing. It's definitely a good deal for the price and can probably do a good job if you don't have to move it around a lot. I think the whole point of this is that you don't need a mount adapter to use it with your regular flash as it mounts like an umbrella. If you're buying a Godox S type Bowens mount for the Speedlite Flash Snoot Softbox Honeycomb I wouldn't even bother - just buy an Octabox with a Bowens mount. Most of these work better, and give you easier access to your flash when it's mounted (so you might get by with the optical trigger built into your Nikon/Canon/Pentax).

Pros
  • New
Cons
