Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Park Tool CM-25: Advanced Chain Scrubber Tool for Professional Use by Marcus Braunstein

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works well, needed an 'upgrade' Shop, good and bad quality at the same time

I frequently service a wide range of bikes, ride 4-5 days a week and have been wrench pulling on bikes for over 40 years. Years. The Park Tool name has been synonymous with quality and sometimes ingenious bike tools throughout my career. This chain cleaner is well built, but also goofy. Why is it stupid? First, this cleaner can be a real mess if overfilled, knocked over, or held at an angle. Inside, Park has two small super soft sponges that are completely useless and keep crawling out. I replaced them with two thick gray Scotch-Brite pads, which I folded twice and inserted into the Park Instrument's upper and lower sponge chambers. The Scotch-Brite pads don't fall off the top or bottom and I know they work better than useless park foam. See photo - yellow arrows indicate replacement Scotch-Brite pads and blue arrow indicates original and useless sponge Park - BAD idea Park, improve your game! This tool is prohibitively expensive and the only reason I bought it was because I was suspicious of using Brake Kleen on any chain as it is destructive to both the chain and the mechanics. I snagged the air purifier at a low price and used Revain points and it only cost me $40. I use the Simple Green water-based degreaser with this Park Tool - it's cheap and works great. Make sure the bike chain is straight, add a couple ounces of degreaser and let it break. The tool works quite well and is better with the scotch brite pads I added. This instrument is an odd mix of good and bad quality - a real paradox for Park and a 3-3.5 star instrument in my opinion. Hope that helps!
