I had an old clunky two prong meat thermometer that broke. I chose this one because it's much more compact and I've seen professional restaurants use it. They have a lot to do with food and safety and if they work with these kinds of devices I would love to follow them. This can be used in a variety of ways, from checking food while it's cooking to monitoring food on standby to make sure it doesn't drop below an unsafe temperature. Didn't need instructions so can't speak to it, but this is a versatile tool that I can use in the oven, on the grill, and for all my other needs. It's cheaper than what I had before and works better than the previous one I had.
