Type of review

i can't tell you how many glass globes i've broken. the last one made it almost 6 whole hours. i was pretty ticked off and when i searched for some sort of relief from my clumsiness, and i found this.it worked great. it did everything you'd think it would. if it cut down on the light any, i couldn't tell. i feel like propane lanterns are crazy (often annoyingly) bright anyway. the screen did get discolored from use, but who cares? i will say that i have not yet tried it in heavy wind, but will…

Pros
  • Great product
Cons
  • Could be difficult to install

Trade-off brightness for durability

I'm glad I don't have to worry about breaking glass anymore. Screen was a bit wide and I had to mod fit it SLIGHTLY to fit it to the base of my lamp. Mesh seemingly generates more heat and will torch bugs drawn to the light. Set it six or so feet from the table and had plenty of light. Bugs fried all night. It is not as bright; casts continuous 'shadow-like" illumination, but more than ample light main area at campsites.

Pros
  • This is amazing and so much safer than glass and equally as bright. Worked perfect
Cons
  • Not compatible with liquid fuel lanterns

Wish I would have found this before

I'll be ordering a whole bunch more of these soon.Replaced my main Coleman globe (broke it god knows how many times) with this one and worked great.Very little difference in light out put.A little harder to light in a wind but not a big deal at all.Had about thirty folks in and out of my camp and they all wanted one (wonder if I can get a token for sending them here to buy? - LOL)The top blued a little from the heat but did not distort and it did no anneal the metal - still just as strong.Fit…

Pros
  • Provides better value than buying a new lantern altogether
Cons
  • Could impact the overall portability of camping gear

Works well as a replacement for a Woods 2 mantle lantern

The glass globe broke on my Woods brand 2 mantle lantern. I got that lantern on clearance from REI and now they no longer carry the Canadian brand, Woods. I called high and low, even to Canadian Tire stores. Eventually I landed on this and decided to give it a shot. It fits perfectly. Very relieved!

Pros
  • Helps to evenly distribute the light throughout the lantern
Cons
  • Could potentially pose a hazard if dropped or mishandled

wish i found these years ago

don`t have to worry about glass breakage . i cant remember over the years how many globes i had to re place.never again!the total brightness may be diminished slightly but the trade off is well worth it. great product fits all my new and older models.

Pros
  • Heat-resistant and safe to use
Cons
  • Could add unnecessary weight to camping gear

Great replacement for glass!

Our coleman lantern glass globe broke and we have small kids and camp alot. I thought I'd give this a try. We were surprised that it let plenty of light through. We also know it will last longer than a glass globe. And I have the confidence it won't break and leave glass everywhere. It does dim the light a little but but not enough that turning the gas up a bit won't compensate for. Definitely recommend

Pros
  • Lights & Lanterns
Cons
  • Limited color options

Works Better Than It Looks!

Have to admit, I had my doubts about whether my lantern would put out enough light with this steel mesh "globe" vs. the standard glass globe. I'm happy to report that it not only met but exceeded my expectations for light transmission. It fit my Coleman dual-mantle liquid fuel lantern perfectly - in fact, the fit seems a little better than with the glass globe. I installed it and fired the lantern up, and there was no appreciable loss of light through the mesh as compared to the glass…

Pros
  • Made with high-quality craftsmanship
Cons
  • Could cause burns if touched while hot

No more glass to break . :)

This is a Ozark trail two mantel lantern we have four we use for night fishing and camping. These globes fit perfect. No more breaking glass globes . :)

Pros
  • Enhances the functionality of the lantern without sacrificing aesthetics
Cons
  • May require special tools for installation

Fits Coleman lantern great

I have a Coleman lantern and have broken the glass 2x. This is perfect for what I need. Some reviews said it doesn’t fit the Coleman lantern but I have no idea what they are talking about. It fits great and is flexible. Going on a 3 night camping trip tomorrow and will see how bright it gets.

Pros
  • Outdoor Recreation
Cons
  • May not provide enough light in certain areas

Good Value for a replacement globe

I picked this up to replace a globe in my coleman 5154 097c dual mantle lantern. works great. The only "con" i can into is the diameter is not quite perfect for the colemans. It's a few mm bigger in circumference but you can fit it without any major problems. As for the concern that the light is diminished - maybe by 5%. Went camping with my Scouts and had this on one lantern and a regular glass globe on another. Barely a difference in brightness within 50 feet.Bonus, when putting lanterns away…

Pros
  • Lantern Accessories
Cons
  • Stainless steel may reflect light in an undesirable way

I have two lanterns, a standard Coleman propane and an Ozark Trail (Walmart version of a Coleman). Both lanterns use standard size globe-- the globes are the same size as any common lantern I've ever owned/used or seen for sale at major retailers. However, these mesh globes are slightly larger diameter and require some modification to fit. I used pliars and bent a crimp in the bottom seam so that the globe would fit into the ring on the lantern. The height was fine. The light output is slightly

Pros
  • Fits most wire mesh camp lanterns for easy replacement
Cons
  • Not ideal for backpacking or minimalist camping

Fits fine on a coleman double globe

I have an "old" Coleman double globe propane lantern (perhaps circa 2001) and based on the reviews, I was afraid it would not fit. The idea of never having to replace the glass again was attractive though and the price was right, so I gave it a shot. What I can say is that the globe seems to be ever so slightly wider on the "top" vs the bottom. The first time I tried to install it, it was too tight and I was having trouble getting it to fit into the base of my lantern. Then I flipped it over and

Pros
  • HIT THE TRAIL WITH CONFIDENCE: When the lights go down, the first thing you grab is your lamp- with this mesh cover, you can weather the dark with a sturdy cover that can really take a beating so you can see even without the north star!
Cons
  • Not practical for long-term or heavy use

My Search Mislead Me

I had ordered this thinking that it would fit the compact lantern but this is designed to fit the regular full-size lantern. I kept it because I also have a full-size lantern and can use it in the event that my glass globe cracks.

Pros
  • Blends well with a wide range of decor styles
Cons
  • May not be as effective as other materials at diffusing light in foggy or humid conditions

Absolutely Worthless in the Wind!

After replacing glass globes off and on for over 25 years on Coleman lanterns, I was excited to see a mesh alternative. I was extremely excited and thought this would be a fantastic solution to what seemed like a broken globe with each camping trip.I installed the mesh globe (which had to be bent slightly to fit the lantern) and it lit up perfect at home. When I put it to use at the campsite it caused the lantern to be of no value. Every time the wind would blow the slightest it would…

Pros
  • Ideal for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities
Cons
  • May obstruct some of the light from reaching certain spaces

I had to modify mine.

Its just a piece of screen, so I'll be kind. The advertising says it fits both 1&2 mantle Stansport propane lanterns. Its too big for the single mantle version. I was able to modify mine and I am using it with no problems. I' like it and I'm sure it will work for a very long time. If you have the single mantle Stansport lantern you might want to pass.

Pros
  • Perfect for emergency situations where a stable source of light is needed
Cons
  • May not be as versatile as other replacement options

Does not fit Stansport Single Mantle Propane Lantern

Product description indicates it fits "Stansport Single Mantle Propane Lantern". It does not, hate this kind of ebay misinformation. I bought both at the same time. I got the lantern for this screen. Now I have to decide if I'll return the lantern, or this screen. Or both.

Pros
  • Gives off brighter light than other camp lanterns
Cons
  • Could be difficult to clean

So much better than glass! No worries about it cracking, it fits just about as accurately as it could, we use it for heat even more so than the illumination so it's fine that it doesn't hold the heat in as much. we can feel it make us warmer quicker for sure. The only thing is because the holes are so dark and close together it takes away a significant amount of light. And it started burning kinda nasty all around the top, not sure if we were supposed to treat it before using it? But whatever…

Pros
  • Has a contemporary and stylish design
Cons
  • May not be as effective at diffusing light evenly

Ditch the glass globe!

Been using Coleman lanterns all my life. I can't count the number of glass globes I've replaced, dozens at least. Get hot, bumped, shatter or crack. Was needing yet another, saw the mesh ones for sale, and for much less. I couldn't be happier! I don't notice (nor did my wife) a real difference in light output, the lantern (especially top) doesn't get so horribly hot, and hey, they'll never break! I have to wonder why they don't put these in lanterns in the first place. Tired of always worrying…

Pros
  • Provides even diffusion of light for a more pleasant ambiance
Cons
  • May not be practical for extreme weather conditions

One of my favorite pieces of gear

This will reduce the amount of light that your lantern puts out slightly. Well worth it in my opinion though, I no longer have to worry about broken globes or shards of sharp glass. I honestly don't know why Coleman doesn't have this as an option when you buy a new lantern.

Pros
  • A well made product, just does not fit the propane lantern I have correctly. Measure twice, cut once.
Cons
  • I will use it as a backup
