This is a carefully written book on the difficult subject of yarn replacement for knitters. We live in a world with seemingly endless access to knitting patterns and yarns, but this makes it really difficult to choose the right yarn for our next project. Carol Sulkosky's new book goes into detail about yarn structure, fiber content and appearance (color) to introduce the reader to yarn in general, and then provides a series of simple but attractive drawings that she uses to suggest specific yarn substitutions and why each case of these options may or may not succeed. The pattern photos for each variant are very helpful, and the photos in the book will delight any yarn lover. I especially love the way she uses the word "edge" to describe how the twisted yarn reflects light and shadow and helps create stitch definition. I have been knitting for 45 years and teaching knitting and other arts for 25 years; I am very happy to recommend this book to my students as an amazing resource.
