I bought this splitter when my regular TV was in the shop. My replacement TV had several AV jacks on the back of the TV, but none of them successfully routed the audio signal to our TV ears, which wasn't an issue with our regular TV. Since the external speaker we used came with its own optical audio cable, I plugged it into an optical audio out on the TV and used a set of analog audio cables to connect it to the TV's ears, which worked fine. Using the replacement kit made it impossible to use the headphones and external speaker at the same time. By connecting an optical splitter to the replacement TV, an optical jack on the smaller set could be used and connected to the TV's headphones and an external speaker. (Phones have both analogue and digital optical inputs. Problem solved).
