The fans in this thing are some of the loudest fans I've heard and if you turn the speed down to level 1 (the slowest setting) you can still hear them , but not their typical fan-capping sound, they squeak like bad brakes on a car. Very high annoying sound. Both fans make this noise, not just one of them. The rest of the device is very clean and is made of high quality plastic, metal and paint. Heck, even the LCD screen looks pretty good. But they've seriously cut corners when it comes to fan selection on this one. They look like your standard 120mm PC fans, but the connector isn't, so you can't just swap out the fans for Noctua or something. They are louder than any other fan in my theater. I have a gaming PC in a hidden cabinet and when I want to play I just open the front door (there is a hole in the back of the cabinet to let air through) and hope to install it in the front door so I can don't. You don't have to open it every time. That thing is louder than my gaming PC in an airtight closet! Do not trust the sound level given in the product description. You must have measured it from 10 feet away. They are now making another product meant for a small closet (this one is meant for a large closet/closet) that claims to be quieter and I will try that.
