I was able to use these to create a watercolor effect on paper by dipping a glass of water and diluting the paint with water. 20 colors are enough for most coloring needs. I would advise you to purchase the Strathmore STR-105-23 Watercolor Promotional Postcard Set (10 pack). . It's really fun for kids. A flatbed of watercolor paper allows you to practice your technique and you can either do it on cards or cut out a good drawing and stick it on a postcard. They are also good for pages if you like to color. You can achieve shading effects. I found them a bit dry. Not very dry, but not very juicy either. They're fun and a great substitute for colored pencils or regular cake watercolors.
