Great coffee. Terrible carafe

After much research I was looking for two key functions of a coffee maker: a) Getting the water to the right temperature as it passes through the coffee grounds. I relied on Consumer Reports for this. This product passed this test. b) Having a brewer that does NOT have a heated plate. I've found that hot plate coffee makers gradually spoil the flavor of the coffee left in the pot. Essentially, the heating platform continues to brew coffee (albeit slowly) and ruins the flavor of coffee not consumed immediately after the brew cycle is complete. And there aren't many coffee makers that meet both of those criteria. This product is one of those few. And the coffee from this coffee maker is, in a word, excellent. But alas, the decanter is just plain awful. First, the purpose of a thermograph is to keep coffee hot, or at least warm. This fails completely in this main function. I'm no expert on carafe design or thermodynamics, but I know when one carafe keeps the coffee hot and this one doesn't. Walls don't seem to be a thermal barrier. And since both the inner and outer walls are made of metal, they seem to pull heat out of the coffee pretty quickly. Second, it's a dirty carafe. It drips and the coffee also settles in the "moat" around the mouth, creating a dried coffee residue that is very difficult to remove. On the outside of the brushed nickel you can see all the water and coffee dripping down the edges. So to sum up: great coffee in a terrible carafe. MORE THAN THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS? INDEED?
