I'm 5ft 6.5" and wear size 8 shoes. They fit me very well and don't go up too high to my calves. I got tired of folding standard length socks down as my calves are bulky and the socks were uncomfortable when pulled up too high. You are exactly right. To update. I just bought another set after wearing my first set for a long time. Some of them eventually wear out when my shoes rub the back of them. They last a long time and are just the right thickness for me. I've added a few photos to show how far down the calf they go.
