Installs on old Macs

This product is very profitable. I already bought a standard Kingston M.2 drive and didn't want to pay for another drive (it would be double the price). IF YOU HAVE AN OLD MAC THAT DOESN'T COME WITH macOS High Sierra, YOU CAN'T FOLLOW THE REGULAR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS! But I found another way. So be prepared to do some silly things and jump through some hoops to make it work. The instructions below help me get it working on my computer (Macbook Pro 12.1 Early 2015). I'm really sorry if this doesn't work for you. Oh, by the way, this will void your warranty. So if you still have a warranty and care about keeping it, don't do it. Install the hard drive on your Mac by following iFixit's instructions and the instructions that came with the adapter.1. If you have a recent Time Machine backup, you can skip to step 4.2. Update your system to the latest macOS.3. Back up the time machine.4. Turn off the system and connect any external drive you have backed up to to your Mac.5. Hold down the Select button and press the Power button.6. You are now in the bootloader. Use the arrow keys to select the green Time Machine disk icon and press Enter.7. wait a while for it to boot into recovery mode. This recovery mode is different from what you may have already tried. This comes from your High Sierra or newer version you created.8. Click Disk Utility and then click Next.9. Make sure Disk Utility recognizes your drive. Click on it and on the toolbar at the top click Delete. Select "APFS case insensitive" from the drop down list or something like that and click "Delete" or "Continue" (can't remember). Give the drive a name like "macOS" and click Erase.10. This might take a while. Just be patient.11. Return to the main menu, click Install a new copy of macOS, then click Next.12. Click on the "Next" button of the installer and accept the terms of use.13. After formatting, it should recognize your drive as an internal hard drive. Select it and continue. It will probably ask you if you are sure and if this will erase the drive. You may also be asked which format you want to use. In this case, select APFS again, otherwise click the Next button. 14. Scroll through the remaining screens and enter any other information you see fit.15. Depending on the internet connection, this can take more than 4 hours. I left it and went to work. I came back 4 hours later and it appeared frozen. No panic. let it go for a few more hours. If it stays frozen for an hour, you can force it off by pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds.16. Disconnect the external drive and reboot. If a new macOS installation cannot be downloaded automatically, select it in the bootloader.17. This first start may take some time. Be patient.18. It should now present you with the Customize Your Mac program. Now you can customize your Mac to your liking. At this point you can restore the previously created Time Machine backup if you wish.19. Enjoy more storage space! I hope you found this helpful and feel free to comment on any other issues you encounter.
