You can either turn the heating on or off, but now that the weather is cooler it's nice to have it on. You can change the timer for this, but I usually set it to 15-30 minutes at a time. The best thing about this foot massager is that not only does it feel great and relieve foot pain, but the inserts are removable and washable. I've seen other foot massagers that force you to leave the cloth insoles on and can get smelly after a while. Not to mention the dirt and debris that can get in there. But with this massager, they can be removed and washed!
