I recently switched to this from a coffee dude at the urging of a friend who calls himself a coffee snob. And although I was hesitant at first, I was pleasantly surprised! It's reliable for the naysayer when you're getting coffee grounds/water ratios and chilly times. As a scientist, I found it fun to play around with variables, but the brochure preset was great. Personally, I like stronger coffees, so I use 26g/400ml near-boiling water and a brew time of 3 minutes 10 seconds. I already had a kitchen scale for cooking before I got this one. If you haven't already, I'd recommend getting one, as I've found that small differences in the amount of coffee grounds used make a big difference. Place the filter in the Smart Guy (you can pre-wet the filter if you like, I couldn't tell the difference), measure out the coffee grounds, pour into the filter and add hot water. Let it steep for the right time (I have a kitchen timer for this). When the timer goes off, drop onto the mug and you'll have a great cup of coffee in a minute! If you're looking to up your coffee game on the cheap, this is the place to go.
