So far so good!: Watersports

I bought these for my Lowe 1240 Jon Boat (see photo). Here are some of the reasons I got them: 1. Launch almost anywhere you can launch a canoe or kayak; 2, Easy to move the boat when working or storing in the garage and yard; 3. I don't need/need a trailer as I can pack the boat in the back of my pickup which brings us back to reason #1 - being able to manually start. My John weighs about 110 pounds dry, add my Merc 6 HP and it adds about 60 pounds so now you're looking at 170 plus the gear I throw in when I go fishing. As it is, I can easily move it. With an extra trolling motor, battery and anchors likely to add another 70-100 pounds. I was very impressed with the fit and finish of the kit as I only saw videos and photos online before receiving them. Installation was very easy. This varies by boat and transom. My top holes/bolts were the perfect length and I was able to use the included acorn nuts to secure them inside, leaving a nice clean finish and no rough ends on the bolts and nuts to snag on skin or clothing. The holes on the bottom I went to the hardware store and bought shorter screws since the boat was a lot thinner there. I could then use an acorn to do the same as the top holes. I used Loctite Marine PL in the holes and on the mounting brackets to keep it waterproof. So far I'm happy with the setup. Most of my launch pads will be existing ramps that have good access. Depending on how much I load the boat and what terrain I'm walking on, there may be some areas where it can be difficult to move around, but if this is the case, drop the boat a bit and improvise. Based on some of the setups I've seen, mine looks lighter. Other boats I saw were large dinghies with 50hp outboard motors. I've also seen 14ft and 16ft Johns use them for hand launching. As long as your total weight doesn't exceed the recommended wheel set and you can lift and move it, they can be used on many types and sizes of boats. Also, I called SeaMax with a few questions before making the purchase. They were very helpful and answered all my questions about installation and usage. Two HUGE thumbs up for that! I hope this review has provided useful information for your decision-making process. I'll update as needed or if I come across anything else that might be helpful.
