Happy childhood memories, fun creations

In 1970, my grandmother bought a cabin on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, installed a fireplace, and bought toast from the local hardware store that she had ready. Brick wall of the chimney. My sisters and I spent every winter break, spring break and most summer vacations at my grandma's and we loved Tahoe and this cabin. One of our favorite things to do was baking sandwiches and cakes in the fireplace or on the gas stove in the kitchen. Long before I knew what a panini was, we were making little airtight flying saucers shaped like ham and cheese, salami, pizza sauce, and cheese, fish fingers, and tarter sauce sandwiches, sausage rolls, and scrambled eggs - delicious little, slightly crunchy, golden brown sandwiches with perfect melted cheese. It only took a few minutes for each and we were able to easily make enough to feed all four in a short amount of time. My grandmother used blackberries or peaches with a little butter, sugar and cornstarch for pie fillings, we made white bread dessert cakes. They were divine and tasted very good because we made them ourselves. I've always loved those memories and have often thought about getting a "cake iron" like my grandmother had. I finally got one and it didn't disappoint. I seasoned the inside with a few very thin layers of peanut butter the night before using it for the first time and used quite a bit of cooking spray when making the sandwiches. I tried it on my induction stovetop and it worked great and took just over a minute on each side. It will be fun to use in the garden with my little Weber Q and I might even use it with my little butane emergency. oven in the event of a power failure. I don't go camping anymore, but making a fire on the beach would be fun too. LOVE IT ♥ps it's very durable and well made, the quality is fantastic. The retro packaging is cute. Next time I use it I'll come back and post some photos.
