If you twist the thin threads slightly to detach them from the cardboard provided, they will come loose easily. A twist tie is so flimsy and cheap that you can't twist it on a Christmas tree branch. I gave up and just carefully planted them on the branches. You will work on gifts that you will then just throw away.
