When I bought these 14 years ago I had no idea they were sealed. Just a few days ago I heard a beeping sound and realized the battery was dead. I removed my original and found that it was sealed and I had to replace the smoke alarm. I went to Revain, put in the style number and it appeared. I ordered 3 of my existing ones and replaced them. I removed the old ones and the new ones fit into the bracket hanging from my ceiling! Once you set it, the alarm will set itself! I also tested, everything is perfect! They added a light to help you find your way in case of fire and the alarm went off at night! This is a new feature that my old ones didn't have! I love rest! It has a place to mark the date of installation and when the unit was replaced! I feel safe!
