Review on Phillips 5606A Aviation Hydaulic Fluid by Patrick Reid

Buy this instead of SeaStar Hydraulic Steering Fluid!

Hello! SeaStar charges $24 per liter for hydraulic steering oil. This Phillips XC fluid is MIL-H-5606A aerospace standard compliant and works great. SeaStar recommends 5606H fluid, which filters slightly better than this 5606A fluid. Check out the questions section above if you want to learn more about the technical differences between filter levels. This link is from the boat forum "thehulltruth". At $10.47 a quart ($41.87 for 4) that's a huge savings over SeaStar liquid. uses about 1/3 of this gallon can. However, two quarts of SeaStar oil would have cost $48 + tax, so I still outdid myself by buying that gallon. Also, I now have extra oil for the next time I need to replace one of the SeaStar cylinder end gaskets (which seem to need replacing every 5 years). The only thing that's a little weird about this liquid is that it's colored red. while SeaStar liquid is golden yellow in color. While reading boat forums dedicated to marine hydraulic steering repairs, I came across several posts that claimed that if you bust the boat's hydraulic system and red fluid comes out, someone used automatic transmission fluid to fill the system. You may just need to explain to the boat mechanic or someone else that you used Phillip XC red hydraulic fluid and not automatic transmission fluid for the steering. Otherwise, it's great value for money and I highly recommend this product. for the hydraulic steering fluid of your boat. Many Thanks.
