Review on CARL 18-inch Heavy πŸ“ Duty Rotary Paper Trimmer - 12238 by Gelin Battle

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good paper cutter with some design flaws

I bought this trimmer primarily to cut and score handmade greeting cards. It does about 50% of what I expected but is still a step ahead of my old paper cutter. BENEFITS: β€’ Smooth, clean cuts β€’ Interchangeable blades (and not too expensive, around $5 per blade) β€’ Convenient storage space at the bottom of the trimmer β€’ Includes 2 straight blades, 1 perforating blade and 2 cutting mats β€’ Can be used for any cut Mat 4 -turns/turns β€’ Strong construction with a tactile feel β€’ 'Locks' paper so it doesn't move while cutting β€’ Rubberized base keeps trimmer stable. Minuses: β€’ Not suitable for cards (only cuts 4 sheets of 100lb (270gsm) covers at a time) β€’ Magnetic paper guide doesn't fit properly, I make a lot of greeting cards at once and after 15+ minutes of manual counting (with dice binder and counting board) catches up my arm starting to ache. I was hoping that a rotary trimmer combined with a replacement CARL K-30 scoring blade for the DC-210/220/238/2503 would be a great solution for me. deep enough to even leave an imprint on the back of the box, let alone create a smooth crease. (See attached photos for comparison.) Very disappointed. The scoring blade is not wide or strong enough to cut thick card stock. I've tested various weights of paper and construction paper is the heaviest thing he's guessing correctly. This is currently the only scoring blade available for this trimmer. So overall the cut is very good, acceptable if you use card stock. The rating is not starter. If you're planning to use this paper cutter to cut computer paper or a small amount of card stock, it's probably the perfect solution for your needs.

Cons
