Review on 3dBi LoRa Gateway Antenna & Extension Cable Set for RAK HNT Bobcat Helium Hotspot Miner by Greg Mcnealey

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Beware the Worst Antenna Buyer!

I read all the reviews before purchasing and I thought that based on all the good reviews I made the right decision. When I think about it, I think all of these rave reviews are WRONG! I bought it to use with my Bobcat miner. I was hoping that with this antenna I could connect to miners much further away. I know that an 8dBi antenna is more horizontal than a 4dBi antenna. I used a tool that calculates the elevation of different locations so I know if the hotspots I want to connect are at what elevation compared to my location. With a standard 4dbi antenna I observed 40 access points, when I switched to this antenna the number of witnesses dropped to 5 and access points that were only 1 mile from me at the same elevation as me were not seen. I waited a week (I know it sometimes takes that long to compile a witness list) but didn't go. A week later, when I was down to 5 witnesses and less than 0.1 HNT per day, I changed the antenna to 5.8 dBi. I now have over 50 witnesses, two of whom are over 40 miles away. This antenna is junk. Don't waste money on it. By the time I finished testing, the return window had closed for me.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • boring packaging
