Review on KeySmart CleanLight Bottle - Portable Insulated Water Bottle with UV Disinfection (Black) by Valerie Perrien

NOT REALLY "self-cleaning ".

Self-cleaning is a bit misleading. Personally, I look forward to the day my entire kitchen becomes "self-cleaning.” But no. It doesn't "clean" itself. What it does is it uses ultraviolet light to disinfect/sterilize itself. A few caveats. The first, of course, is the fact that you have to charge it. At least he doesn't work for AA or anything anymore. But you REALLY have to remember to put it in your pocket every day. Second, the "UV sterilizer" (I refuse to call it "self-cleaner") ONLY works with clean, unscented water with no ice. Any colored liquid or anything that is NOT liquid water will work very well to neutralize the UV light in the cap. So understand that water is your ONLY option if UV sterilization is your main reason to consider it. So hot drinks stay hot. Who sits and drinks clear hot water? And if you put things like coffee and tea in here, you simply turned off the UV function before it even worked. So keep that in mind if you seriously think about it. Daily charging is no longer a problem these days. But being able to use this for just plain water (if you're going to be using a UV system) makes a huge difference to me. Actual use with water defeats much of its purpose and slightly increases running costs compared to other vacuum insulated bottles. If you only use this with water (and very clean water) then this is probably a good solution for you as the UV light kills bacteria (one of the REAL causes of "sickness") and helps prevent bad things from growing in your bottle. But if you want to put something else in the vacuum flask then the UV system becomes almost useless at that point. So it's really JUST a regular water bottle and $100 for a bottle that's pretty much JUST for water is a little overpriced. If this company advertised it more accurately as ONLY water I would rate it higher. But the fact that they use a single UV light and tout it as pretty much anything you want to put in it is misleading.
