Upgrade your stereo with this

Upgraded to 3 stars as mirroring no longer works. I am not sure if it is due to the latest iOS update. First Review: I bought it to upgrade my car radio which has no touchscreen and fewer functions. With limited electrical experience I decided to proceed with the installation and it's been a rollercoaster ride for me. These are my beginner tips and they apply to any aftermarket unit - make sure you have a wiring harness to make your life easier. For my car I used Metra 70-1761. With this, you don't have to guess which factory wires to solder to which radio wires, since those wires are a different stereo color. The wire harness is color coded the same as the stereo cable. If you want the steering wheel controls to work and install a rear view camera, the first thing you need to know is which wire to connect to. The wiring harness mentioned above does not help in this case. Seal the unused end of the wire with tape. Be sure to attach the ground wire properly. This will prevent the fuse from blowing. Once you know this, installation is easy. It is very easy to use and easy to use. As for stereo, it has all the features I need. not yet in use The accompanying reversing camera was a nice addition. I also have the following feedback: 1) I'm not used to the touchscreen as I often have to swipe multiple times before it works 2) My steering wheel controls (volume, track skip) work as expected. I'm glad I don't have to buy an extra kit (like 1 - this kit is $45!) for the SWC to work as I've seen several videos with instructions like this. Not sure if this feature is new? The downside is that when I tried to program the "mode" function, the other controls got messed up. So I removed this mode feature. Alternatively, I can use the external steering wheel control that came with the device, but I've decided not to use it yet. 3) It's good to have a rear view camera and night vision. However, the quality can suffer in low light. Overall I'm happy with the overall performance. Installation can be tricky when new, but this applies to all other aftermarket equipment. As mentioned above, there are some inconveniences, but that's not a deal breaker for me.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
