This is almost perfect for the application: a small to medium sized laptop that you want to pick up to use as its own monitor with a separate keyboard and mouse. There is a fold-down edge to keep the computer from sliding down no matter what steep angle you choose. It's super easy to set up the stand every time, and step-by-step number wheels let you—well—set your preferred settings. The stand is very light and folds flat, although this configuration is still too large to fit in my computer backpack (nothing that would detract from this as using a different stand would likely reduce the peak strength for such a light stand ). The surprise people are likely to have with this one is that it's very (1) light and (2) thin. But it really is what you want: (1) it's easy to transport, and (2) it makes the aluminum stand even better at passive heat dissipation, meaning no fan is required. Lightness can create a feeling of instability, but I don't think a laptop can fall due to a broken stand - just because of the wrong center of gravity. Do not buy a heavier and more complex laptop - there is no need. Don't buy plastic that doesn't conduct heat well. Buy this.
