My 81 year old mother had some problems with drinking water after a sewage problem in the water main. During this time, she also contracted a urinary tract infection. As a result, she was very concerned about the quality of her water after the plumbing issue was resolved. We needed a kit that included a test for E. coli as this bacterium is a common cause of urinary tract infections. I've looked at many kits, even on other websites, and found that not many of them include an E. coli test. If this is the case, the kit is usually difficult to use since it tests many different things, and quite expensive ($25 and up). I was happy to find this kit for only $12. It's very easy to use. Just add water to the line shown and it will change color from yellow to blue when bacteria are present. Essentially, you create a petri dish for any bacteria present for them to feed on. The quick results convinced my mother of the quality of her drinking water and she no longer had a UTI.
