Mixed Results

I have used this heater in two different tanks. The first is one of two heaters that have been in my aquarium for almost 2 years now. I have never had any problems with this heater. However, a second purchase for a quarantine tank I installed due to an Ica outbreak failed miserably. Either the thermostat or controls or the heater itself had failed, causing the water temperature in my quarantine to rise. when exceeding 97ยฐ it was set to 78ยฐ. This heater has been used for less than two months. Luckily I was able to verify my quarantine shortly after the problem started. As I entered the place where I was quarantined, I heard the thermostat turning on and off. At first I thought it was something else, but when I put my hand in the water to check the temperature, I was shocked and realized the water was very hot. Then I noticed that my male Sailboat Angel was dead and a pair of my square-backed Antias were also dead. It could be even worse as there are several other fish out there that are worth a lot more than the one I lost. I also have a backup heater that I was able to fit into the tank after cooling the water with two fans. I would say it's a mixed review. On the one hand, the first heater worked perfectly, without any problems for two years of operation. While the second failed miserably in less than two months and cost me over $250 in fish. Personally, my next heater probably won't be the cheapest I can find. Just know that it could very well be 50-50 rolls of the dice, or should I say flip a coin.
