Good for sticking photos onto plastic cat litter buckets

If you have artistic experience, Mod Podge is a clear acrylic gel medium. But lower costs and no guaranteed archiving. So it could be yellow or something. If you need long-term archival, something like Golden Clear Acrylic Gel or Faber Castel Clear Acrylic Gel works very similarly to Mod Podge, but is guaranteed archival (acid-free and won't yellow) and costs between two and five. times more than Mod Podge. If you have no artistic experience then Mod Podge is similar to Elmer's thinner glue except that when it dries Mod Podge no longer dissolves in water like Elmer's glue and insects do not dissolve. Don't eat it like Elmer's. The major downside to Elmer's is that it doesn't seal the top surface. So if you cover the top of something with Elmer's glue, even the moisture in the air can make it sticky later on, and then dirt/dust can get stuck in the glue. And you can never wipe Elmer's glue to clean it because the moisture will really ruin it. Mod Podge is an affordable alternative for crafts that you want to clean up later. I use this Mod Podge to decorate litter boxes. I buy kitty litter in large yellow plastic buckets, then wash them and use them as storage containers. Acetone, like nail polish remover, can remove ink (for each bucket, it either wipes right away or doesn't do anything at all, and it depends on which factory made the bucket, or what month they made it, or something similar ; same brand but with different inks). I then used Mod Podge to place calendar images on all 4 sides of each bucket. One layer below the image to stick it and two layers above to attach it. After the Mod Podge has dried I have a decorated storage basket and I can wipe it down with a damp cloth to clean it. Mod Podge adheres very well to plastic. I found myself using about 3 ounces of acetone and 1 ounce of Mod Podge per bucket. Mod Podge remains a small stick on the surface for several months. It's not like touching the surface does anything. But if you had something like a book cover and applied the image with Mod Podge and then painted over it to protect it, then let it dry for a few days and then put it in a stack, that print and touch to in a stack will cause bits of the cover to stick to the book next to it and it will really ruin it. Mod Podge recommends using a sealer which they also sell and if it's a top coat it dries quickly. For things you make yourself you have a really long curing time (months) of your choosing. For items you plan to sell or give away you will likely need the branded Mod Podge Sealant sold separately as you then have a short curing time and can gift/sell without adding weird special care instructions. By the way, most artist gel mediums also have a long curing time, where the surface will be slightly sticky for several months after application. This will help the second layer stick on top and if you use it as an adhesive it will help to remove the air bubbles later and then press down and let it stick where the air bubbles were. Mod Podge, which can be a good way to try a small amount at home. They are also available in different versions, e.g. B. in a glossy or satin finish, so you can see a small amount at a time and decide which you like. That large can of Revain can then refill a small squirt bottle, so you can use it as a way to pour a small amount at a time (pouring from a 16-ounce can can be awkward, and sticking a brush right in lets you add glitter add or water or whatever in a large bottle). Right now, Mod Podge is cheaper at Revain than WalMart, so Revain is a good place to get it. No noticeable fumes and no special instructions for use in a well-ventilated area. In general, acrylic paints have no limitations for artistic purposes, and since Mod Podge is essentially an inexpensive, clear acrylic paint, I don't expect any fumes. It has a glue smell similar to Elmer's.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • When in doubt
