Useful button!

Some KVMs use keyboard shortcuts to let you know you want to switch computers. Others have buttons on the device itself to trigger the switch. As for me, I really liked KVMs, which have a tiny remote control button that can be placed discreetly on the table and a large unit with all the cables connected to it hidden somewhere behind the table. A quick press of a small button and you switch with ease. Very good. The button is solid and makes a distinct "click" when pressed, and the button has dim blue LEDs that tell you which system is active. Exactly how it should be. The KVM itself, like most DisplayPort KVMs, does not attempt to create a virtual connection to a system that is not in focus: This means that when you switch between computers, the running operating system will recognize that you are essentially disconnecting the display and reconnecting have connected when you switch. . What that means depends on your setup. If you only have one monitor, the operating system is likely just sitting there waiting for the display to come back. Usually, when you have multiple monitors, the operating system moves all your windows off the missing display and places them on the remaining display. If the resolution of this display is different, the sizes and positions of the windows can be changed. If you reconnect the missing display, your operating system might put the windows back in place, but most likely it won't. It can be a mess if you just have the right (wrong) combination of items. Similarly, the keyboard and mouse appear to be connected/disconnected at each switch. However, this usually does not interfere with the work. I am using a Logitech Unifyingβ„’ adapter with a wireless keyboard and mouse attached and have had no side effects. Some KVMs interfere with the extended keys and knobs available on fancy mice and keyboards, but this KVM seems to pass those key and knob presses without a hitch. Exactly how it should be. The only issue I've noticed is a very rare screen flicker on my display. Since this doesn't happen often, I can't be sure if it's caused by KVM or a non-standard cable I might be using. Some KVMs are powered by USB ports that you plug into computers, but not this one: you need to plug in the included power adapter or the KVM won't work. Given how many problems I've had with KVM in the past, I have no complaints about this one. I'm working with a 4Kx2160p@60 display and it works fine. For the price it's just right for me.
