Not working perfectly: Computer components

I use this to switch between my existing Windows 10 desktop and the new Mac M1 Mini. Basically works, but not without problems. Since the next option is about twice as expensive, I'll probably leave it and live with the problems. The first problem I found was the speakers buzzing when switching to the Windows side. This used to be my permanent computer and it never worked without a KVM switch. I tried many things but solved the problem after realizing that my sound card has an optical output in

The switch works fine, the sound is buzzing.

I first bought this to switch my gaming PC to the monitor and audio I use for music/video editing. There is no hum in the base system. Video switching works flawlessly, there is no additional flickering when switching. If at all, then only once. I connected it to a 3440x1440 monitor and ran it at 60Hz. However, the audio channel hums. Very noisy when using the included USB power cable to your computer's USB port. Less if you plug it into power. Also, it didn't seem to require power with USB…

Inexpensive, works as expected

Easy setup, switchable between USB and audio/mic. For me it switched between my personal Windows 10 desktop and my macOS work laptop, everything was plug and play and only worked with 1440p screen output - no driver fumbling or software installation. I've connected a powered USB hub to one of the USB ports and it seems to be doing a good job of handling additional peripherals. I had a small issue where the switch would automatically switch to any computer connected to "1" (happened randomly…

TL; Summary DNR - like KVM, some minor glitches. Like many people, I now work mostly from home. I have a home computer (two year old desktop) and a work computer (Lenovo laptop) and am having trouble setting up my work environment. Linux is running on both computers. I originally used a 1080x1920 monitor on each system and then combined them into 2 monitors and used a dual monitor KVM setup but due to space constraints I had to limit the use of a larger monitor but my working system would not…

Doesn't work with dual boot (only works 10% of the time)

In general, if you don't use dual boot, this may not be a problem. You have to use it to enter GRUB or BIOS configuration, well that rarely works. I have a wired keyboard and it still doesn't work. When I get a POST, I see the keyboard LEDs come on and then go off again. This shows that the keyboard is not getting power, so I can't use my keys to change my OS in GRUB or BIOS configuration. This works about 10% of the time. The BIOS is set to full USB support and is waiting until properly…

Useful button!

Some KVMs use keyboard shortcuts to let you know you want to switch computers. Others have buttons on the device itself to trigger the switch. As for me, I really liked KVMs, which have a tiny remote control button that can be placed discreetly on the table and a large unit with all the cables connected to it hidden somewhere behind the table. A quick press of a small button and you switch with ease. Very good. The button is solid and makes a distinct "click" when pressed, and the button has…

  • Expensive

They ended up being pretty reliable near-perfect KVM switches. I've experimented with multiple monitors, HDMI and DP versions of KVM, and a variety of adapter cables to find a good setup. I hope my comments below will help other buyers find the right combination. My Acer G235h monitor was 9 years old and only supported DVI and VGA inputs, so I bought a Tripp Lite DP to DVI active cable and it didn't work. ok, with the DP KVM switch, when I switched to the laptop dock, snow appeared on the…

Pros
  • Computer components
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options

So it's been literally decades since I've had a KVM switch. I think the last one I had was one of the newer USB switches and the previous one had PS/2 ports. Ah, memories. However, I can't recall ever using a KVM switch with a laptop before; a few desktops yes, but no laptop. And that for two laptops. So yes, the KVM switch works, but also yes, if you're using the monitor as an extended display for your laptop, it will override every time you switch between them. For example, if you have…
