Review on Gates 33008 180F 82C Thermostat by Ryan Schweigert

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A 180 degree thermostat often doesn't open 180 like a light switch

This thermostat works as it should, I didn't give 5 stars because durability is a big thing with thermostats and only time will tell. A 180 degree thermostat often won't open at 180 like a light switch and will show a drop on your meter at 180 degrees. It is normal for there to be some delay between the reading of the temperature sensor, the opening of the thermostat and the cooling effect of opening. However, I can see this thermostat opening at 190 degrees (the suggested temperature in my app) on my meter and dropping from there, which is normal and fairly accurate for a 180 degree device. Some $15+ units plan to open more than 170 degrees, allowing you to fully open faster by taking a noticeable 180 snaps and dropping them on the temperature sensor. When you need that kind of accuracy, you often end up spending more. I recently tested a bunch of new stunts and some of them even came close - all above or below their rating - by 25 degrees. If this continues, am I likely to stay with Gates? So far it's accurate and at a good price.
