Doesn't work for me on sewing supplies and accessories

They appear to be well made but do not fit the drawstring of a pair of Russell gym pants I bought. The cable is about 1/8", very soft, smooth and flexible, and I think the spring in the lock is strong enough, but the clamping surface is too smooth. I'm an engineer, and you can take it for what it is It's my 3rd time trying to buy a lanyard lock, the first two were a complete joke, this one is better but still doesn't hold up, I gave those 3 stars for the design and for that a man a " perfect "Gosh, I'm probably having no luck with this one, and the point is that the lock won't stay locked when pressure is applied.
