I was looking for strong/heavy tongs for grilling and smoking. So the requirements were like this; should be as stiff as possible in length, have an easy-to-use and durable locking mechanism, and the swivel should be strong and durable. These tongs were fairly rigid but didn't feel like heavy tongs. Basically they feel stiff because they are not very long. If they were much longer I think the arms would start to bend. The other two requirements didn't suit me. The locking mechanism is a push/pull lock with a blade. This metal lock wobbles a lot and it seems like it's only a matter of time before it breaks or stops working. The hanging ring at the top of the mounting blade seems handy for hanging, but it's quite small and won't fit many large smoker or grill hangers. It hangs well from a small kitchen hook or pole, but many grills have large cutouts or larger molded resin hangers. But the biggest issue for me is the hinge. When you squeeze them together, the swivel feels sloppy and has lateral play. When you apply force to the tong arms, their ends move laterally relative to each other rather than straight down toward each other. It doesn't matter if I'm using them on a salad, but if I'm removing a piece of rib or steak from the grill or smoker, the tong heads moving that way could mean the meat is on the floor. If you're looking for decent, inexpensive kitchen tongs, that's fine, go ahead. But I was looking for heavier tongs for grilling or grilling and these were too light and flimsy for that.
