I bought three for bushes in front of my house. I've had them for a few days and plan to buy more. After reading some of the other comments you need to know the following: 1) There are contacts on the battery holder that should fit snugly into their other half at the bottom of the cylinder. If you make sure of this, you won't have a problem with only half the lights working. 2) The timer starts when the light is turned on. They're on for 6 hours, then off at 6pm, then on at 6am, etc. For example, if you want them to start at 5am and then 5am, press the button to turn them on. Then they will work on the cycle mentioned above. There is no need to set a timer. The "on" time starts when you turn it on. 3) There are 8 light modes (such as flashing, fade, steady, etc.). Just read the label on the battery compartment and keep pressing the button until you get the pattern you want. It's very easy. 4) I put the battery case in a ziplock bag and added tape to protect it from the outside. I hope you enjoy your lights as much as I do.
