I am satisfied with these lamps. They were in a special box to protect them during transport. When off, they are white but emit a soft red light. They're not bright enough for reading or editing documents, but I use one to block out the blue light coming from the TV and other rooms. I use it in the evening and darken the room when I'm watching TV or surfing the web.
