Review on ๐Ÿงต Dritz Clothing Care 82626 Darning Egg, Black: The Perfect Tool for Mending and Sewing Clothing" by Lori Aguirre

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent design and construction, with one exception (which can be resolved - see below) - still worth buying.

Used by knitters in our family, gets 4 stars. It works very well and the detachable handle came in handy immediately for the repairs she was waiting for when the darning egg arrived. The quality is good including the finish - EXCEPT for the lack of grease on the wood carving on the handle that screws into the egg. Continue reading. The only real gripe is that even with the rubber openers, it was almost impossible to unscrew the handle from the egg. We almost gave up completely and probably wouldn't have failed on the last try โ€“ it was that bad. After separating, we applied beeswax with some furniture oil to the wood threads to screw them back in, and there haven't been any sticking issues since. Poor (or incomplete) workmanship in this regard - just a small amount of suitable lubricant on the handle threads prevents the two parts from being almost inseparable when received and used by the buyer. It is too easy for the manufacturer and, to be honest, too lazy to classify it in the product ranking. Otherwise this would be a simple 5 star rating.

Pros
  • Two piece construction for use with or without a handle
Cons
  • No instructions
