This does not convert to 5.1 on a receiver. I have a Pioneer receiver with 2 front, 2 surround and a Center speaker. I connect the 3 leads from my computer, to this "converter" , then RCA cables from the "converter" to my receiver. After configuring my sound for 5.1 and verifying all proper settings, all the various speaker test sounds come from the Front 2 speakers. So, this thing is pointless. I ordered this so I could connect a surround sound (made for a computer) to my tv. This box is just what I needed and works great. I can also plug in my phone (to the box then speakers) now, too. Worth it. It was hard to find.

I replaced this adapter with one I had years ago. The price on these items have gone up double; however, they are a most if you want to hook up external speakers to a 3.3mm jack. The sound is crystal clear and there is not lag when using this and playing video games with a laptop or a handheld system like a3DS, Game Boy, or even a PSP. This gets the most sweetest sound (depending on what kind of speakers you have hooked up), out of any portable device with a 3.5mm jack.

I Purchased this to take advantage of a 5.1 speaker system which was not being used. Works like a charm, simpler and cheaper than other options. It’s not true 5.1 audio, but does a good job of distributing your stereo input into all five speakers.

This device simply splits a single stereo input (The RCA jacks) to 3 equal stereo outputs (the headphne jacks). inversly, the 3 headphone jacks can be integrated into one stero output. Inorder to to make it a true 5.1 surround you need to connect the headphone jacks (as an output) into some kind surround amplifier. I use a Sony GA7ES wich has 5.1 surround inputs, including the Center/Bass spliter filters.
