Ubuntu 10.4 Wireless Success!

I was also able to use this wireless network adapter to connect to a wireless network through Ubuntu 10.4. To make it work on my computer after booting Ubuntu 10.4, I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk, both of which came with booting Ubuntu 10.4. Finally, I downloaded the Windows XP SMC driver (arusb_xp.inf) on Ubuntu 10.4 using ndisgtk and the SMC adapter works great!

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • May be harmful

Cheap and works great!

Bought this adapter to use with Commview, chose the cheapest adapter supported by Commview and was surprised that it just works!. To use this adapter with Commview, you need Commview version 6.3 or higher. I'm surprised that this adapter also supports Packet Injection, it helped me a lot when testing my WEP networks. Speed and range are excellent. I am so happy with this product.

802.11N Wireless USB Adapter

I use SMC Wireless Adapter in my "Ubuntu 10.4 Linux OS System”, it works great, never had any problem. My router couldn't be better. I tried the NetGear wireless adapter and finally after hours of trying to get it working when they said it wouldn't work on Linux haha!. But I returned it and then bought SMC 802.11. N, all I can say is that it just works, a very good wifi adapter. If needed, I would buy SMC products on my next purchase.

Pros
  • Good Looking
Cons

Works with WD TV Live Plus

This is not usually my first wireless USB adapter but it works great with WD TV Live Plus which is the main reason for my purchase. it is really easy to work with. You just plug in the adapter, go to network management and look for an access point. It may not connect the first time. Please try again. When connected, the indicator flashes quickly (LED lights up green). The connection was lost once, but it is relatively far from the access point and between the wall. Overall, I would rate the…

Worked great at first

Worked great at first. However, after less than a year, the adapter began to fail. The desktop I used it with frequently lost internet connection (but not connection to my wireless router). "Restoring" the network connection on the desktop always solves the problem. until it happens again. Recently, the internet connection has been interrupted several times an hour. So the WLAN adapter went in the trash. I've bought 3 wireless SMC adapters (each a different model) over the last few years and…
