Changing my rating because the thing took a colossal crap. When I slide it out it seems to read correctly, but when I close it the number is off by at least 0.2 inches. In my work, where we have tolerances of a few thousandths of an inch, that's 200 thousandths. I like the large display and the fact that it turns on automatically when you slide it. It also remembers "where it was" when you reset it to compare.

Works well but I admit it's my fault I overlooked the fact that this caliper doesn't have an adjustment ring. If you're used to using a caliper with a dial, which most people most likely are, adjusting to holding it differently to get consistent measurements is tedious. I don't know why this model doesn't have a dial, but all right hand digital calipers I've used or reviewed have them.

I didn't try it right away and if I did I would either exchange it for another one or get my money back. Headstock travel is very tight from 4" to 8" and very slack from 1" to 4". A small pull handle is useless in solving this problem. I have the 6" version and it works as it should. This 8" has a repeatable benefit of only 1" to 4" or 4" to 8". In other words, it's a very long 4-inch caliper.
