Description of πŸ”¬ Ade Advanced Optics Refractometer (1000-1120)

Ade Advanced Optics dual range refractometer measures the brix and specific gravity of your wort or wine. Measures brix: 0-32 percent and specific gravity: 1.000-1.120. Features atc (automatic temperature compensation) for accurate readings. Aircraft aluminum body, premium optical lens, rubber eye guard. A refractometer is easier and more accurate than a hydrometer for measuring sugars.

Good device, bad case

While the device itself is fine, one of the reasons I bought it is the case. The case is fine, but the latch that keeps the case closed is a Rubik's Cube type POS. When trying to open the case, I quickly broke it. It's a cheap plastic case. So if the case breaks, you have a rubber strap to keep it closed. Very disappointing. I still think it's a good device but if you're going to pay more for a case don't as it's very cheap and ridiculously bad design.

Pros
  • Ade Advanced Optics dual range refractometer measures Brix and specific gravity of your must or wine
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

This is a regular device at best.

This is a good instrument at best. As other reviewers have pointed out, you'll need to calibrate this item every time you use it (which is usually a chore). For example, if you choose to pre-cook, you need to calibrate it. You also need to recalibrate it to get the OG after cooking (yes, you need to recalibrate it twice if you test the OG both before and after cooking). Aside from the hassle of calibrating each time, this item seems relatively accurate (within 0.001) to my hydrometer readings.

Pros
  • Brix measurements: 0-32 percent and specific gravity: 1.000-1.120
Cons
  • So far so good

Must have homebrew!

Added this product to my brewing tools and it makes it easier to determine the alcohol content of my beer. To determine the original gravity, I only need a drop, not a bottling of a great abomination. You can use this with hot or cold liquid. The construction of the tool is very light as I believe it is made of aluminum. The included hard case is very nice and looks just like the picture. The adjustable eyepiece for focusing is a nice feature. I compared this to other brands and it was the best

Pros
  • Refractometer lighter and more accurate than sugar hydrometers
Cons
  • Not bad but...
