I bought them as a swimsuit. They will do for this, but they are mostly sports shorts. They are not as short as in the product photo. They are also a bit big. I have a 35" waist (jeans size 34) and bought Tag L (US M). Much more room at the waist. This size fits a man wearing size 38 jeans. What I like about them is that they have both an elastic band and a tie. And the tie is sewn into the shorts so you don't have to show it. Great feel and fit, not as short as others say but the side slit sure looks nice. My order was for M, which is slightly but tolerably baggy. The drawstring is inside and very long so I cut it off, there is no inside pocket for the key either. I took these pictures because they reminded me of what I wore as a kid in the mid to late 70's. I'm a size 2XL and love the softness and extra room in the front of the shorts. I was a bit worried they would be too tight and short without underwear or with a strap but they fit me. Nothing can be seen through the three-layer mesh fabric. I have a pair in mustard yellow and sky blue. The yellow pair is perfect! Extremely breathable and surprisingly soft. They appear to be of good quality; I noticed they are a bit see through so you need panties and I really don't see how you are supposed to wear them as swimming trunks. They're definitely way, way shorter than the wavy, flowy basketball shorts most guys wear (the legs barely reach my fingertips), but they're not obscene or anything - functional and I have no problem wearing them
