Alphone CCS-1A Ringer/Intercom

This review is of the ringer/intercom itself, not the picture. :) I installed this (secure) system in October 2009. Almost 9 years in use. He never fails. The outdoor unit has a bright little backlight to find it in the dark. A pleasant but audible doorbell rings in my small house. Voices are clear and crisp from both the internal and external speakers. You no longer have to expose yourself to someone at your door. *Update: August 2018 - This unit still works like new in 2009. Wonderful. I…

Pros
  • Positive Only
Cons
  • Old Fashioned

A simple way for two-way voice communication at the entrance. I really like the feature where I can listen anytime (just press the button quickly and you can listen anytime), _you_ don't have to wait, _they_ press the doorbell to listen (unlike other expensive Wi-Fi systems) . fi). The voice quality depends on your wiring. If you have really old wiring for an old doorbell, can it transmit speech clearly? This is for a new house and I am actually using structured cabling via COAX (RG6) adapters…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!

  • Infinitely sluggish

Excellent Doorbell + Intercom, Solid Construction, Clear Sound

Replaced the doorbell with this device. I had to purchase a "doorbell wire" separately to route it to where I wanted it in my wall, but other than that all I needed was some tools I already had on hand. The reason I had to move it is because my original doorbell was pretty high on the wall and I wanted this intercom to be at shoulder height so the button would be easy to press. It works like this: If someone presses a button outside, the device inside rings like a doorbell, and the volume is…

I'll take care of it, really this time.

My wife is sometimes home alone and she finds it uncomfortable to open the door to strangers. The outcome can be worse if the villains think the house is empty. It was a great replacement for the original doorbell. It was easy to install just below the existing doorbell in my hallway. Out of the house. I removed the wires going to the external button from the internal doorbell assembly, then removed the old doorbell assembly and the power wires attached to the doorbell. Transformer located in a

Excellent intercom. but READ EDIT

EDIT 02/26/2015: I discovered something important. I got lucky with the first one installed. I used two 18/2 thermostat wires because the hardware store didn't have small 18/5 spools. The distance was about 25 feet (50 feet of wire for both locations) and everything worked great. I bought a second intercom for my daughter's house and got an 18/5 coil so I only had to pull one wire. BIG MISTAKE! Nothing but static. I've tried all sorts of things. I ended up resorting to a separate 18/2 line for…
