👍 Big Twin Starter Clutch Assembly by All Balls Racing 79-2104 Review

After watching a few different videos I felt confident enough to fit this myself. Just follow the video instructions and it's pretty painless. I installed this on my 09 Ultra Classic 96ci. Now it starts very easily even when the engine is hot which is my problem. It made a terrible noise when trying to start a hot engine. No problem anymore. Many thanks to All Balls Racing for a quality product.

So far so good. Fits HD Ultra Classic 2008. See attached image, starter clutch (below) unlike this assembly does not have sealed bearings. It looks more powerful than the OEM module. So far, so good. Will be upgraded to 5 stars if/when somehow it keeps delivering higher performance. Please note when reading that the HD kit comes with a new spring and this one does not. Not sure if it's important? I have already used the spring in the starter and have not replaced it.

My problem was that when I tried to start the bike when it was hot, it squeaked like it was missing teeth. Starts up well after cooling down. The main problem was driving and stopping to refuel. If I didn't wait 30 minutes to cool off, it would take a few tries and an embarrassing crunch to get started. After some research I was pretty sure it was a starter clutch problem. ordered this part. A few hours to swap and now the problem is gone. Starts like a new bike every time.

It was only after completing the installation and noticing that the jack would not retract that I noticed that the only ball bearing that was already installed and 'locked' with grease was not complete built in was the way down. I had to pound it in with a wooden dowel because the lube held it in place even though it was assembled! Not cool. Not cool. Not to mention the seller sent this item in an unsealed envelope and the packaging was crumpled when it got to me. Not cool again.

Great product so I won't rate the product negatively but beware ALL-Balls need to take their @55 off and update the instructions! If you are reassembling this with your old bearing, take it apart again (as I and others have done) to remove it as there is a bearing already in it! All Orbs should know this from all previous reviews if they noticed the issue but didn't fix it. Do yourself a favor and try it out! The bearing in the new one is clogged with grease, so look closely.

Installed in my factory HD Starter. Works so great after I had to take it apart again to remove the extra metal bead. The instructions say to make sure the ball is in place so I put the ball in the hole. The manual doesn't say it's already there. Got the starter and installed it. Luckily I had removed the outer primary cover and noticed that the flex gear was partially inserted into the clutch hub gear. So I tried to contact support and got no answer. This set contains two o-rings but only one will fit. Since it takes two to work (one inside to seal the bearing to the housing and the other outside of the housing to the primary) it's safe to assume the two kits supplied will do the trick, NOT THAT! The HDOE o-ring that fits in is a discontinued part only available in their starter clutch kit.
