These don't always work. Not worth the risk.

I used it once to diagnose a low voltage short. I watched the transformer smoke and the cracker never broke the circuit. I was lucky that only the transformer failed, not the circuit board. For me the little popper was a waste of money. I threw it away.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Incredible piggy bank

I'm warning you, if they go bad, they're Transformer Killers!

Worked great initially and believed was essential to the HVAC trade. I've solved a lot of shorts with this guy and it works perfectly. One day it stopped crackling and checked the transformer. I hoped it was just an accident but he did it again so it went in the trash along with the fried Transformer. I switched to a short professional tool.

Pros
  • Pleasing
Cons
  • Older model

Indispensable for low-voltage diagnostics! ! !

This is required for low voltage troubleshooting. If this is your first time encountering a low voltage short circuit, you will appreciate this tool. Reset button, simply connect to the fuse sockets on the circuit boards. No need to burn transformers or blow fuses. I have both 3 and 5 amps. I use 3 amps most often. Even systems with 5 amp fuses will not typically work above 3 amps. I like having both because I like having the right tool for the job and I feel guilty about being a tool…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
