Good but not great for macro photography

I use this light for macro photography on my Nikon D7200 with a Tamron 90mm macro lens. It works fairly well for subjects a few inches to a few feet away, but isn't powerful enough to replace flash at longer ranges. I'm generally happy with the performance and comfort.

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • Safety

Not bright enough - went back and bought a different product.

I bought this product for macro photography and maybe portrait photography. I found it produced very little light. Even at full power it was not suitable for macros. I've also found that it stays on all the time, even in flash mode. I returned it and bought a Neewer R-160 which was much brighter and had rings that clipped directly to the front of the lens.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Fits

Great for learning Best for macro and ring flashes

If you're looking for an inexpensive flash to try out macro and see if it works for you, this is great. You can take some great photos and know whether or not you want to spend more. The downside is that photos tend to be very flat and boring. It's also not bright enough when you need to reduce sharpness for more depth of field. For the price you can't beat it.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Requires outlet

I love pleasant surprises like this

Bought this to replace a missing adapter ring for another macro flash. This flash and all adapter rings were the same price as the adapter ring I replaced! I decided to try this flash with no expectations given the price and simplicity. I'm a professional photographer and found this thing to be the bomb! It's easy, cheap and it works! It has a constant light or flash mode, as well as power and intensity adjustment. That's all. I love such pleasant surprises!

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Big and chunky

it serves its purpose and is a simple macro solution

This is an upgrade from the previous model with fewer LEDs. It is a very easy to use product that could have been a bit cheaper which is very helpful in macro photography even in the field in uncontrolled conditions. We also use it in the lab to help identify small invertebrates. I also use it for close-up video recording. It has multiple power options and the control box mounts in the ring for portability. It looks like this will remain so for a long time. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Useless features

Good value in a bright well made variable wattage ring light

A nicely made camera, especially for the price, the only thing missing is that it's not an automatic flash, so manual exposure control is required. However, this is easy to do, so there is no star deduction. The brightness is quite good for my intended use in close-up or macro photography, although there is sometimes still too much flare, which is why I opt for a softbox. I like having the choice between constant light and higher powered flash, and I usually use constant light for convenience…

  • Everything is great!

AMAZING light for the price

excellent light works amazing. First my 4 star rating because it's really tight on the flash. Amazing light, works great with all features. I am very happy with it and that it fits my Nikon D5300/D5200 Canon Rebel XTI One Piece. Not sure I like it but I can live with it as this light is meant for macro photography. With wide-angle shots, you will see a rim of light. This is my first experience with this lamp. I can easily crop the rim to a small or large 24.1MB image EXCEPT! Low light is more…

Pros
  • delivery was very quick
Cons
  • crumpled

Cheap Chinese garbage is not for big lenses!

I was skeptical about the quality of this ring light but other reviews have convinced me that this is a quality product. I followed my intuition. It's cheap Chinese junk, about $5 worth. It's made entirely of thin plastic, except for a tiny bit of metal at the base of the hot shoe mount. First, the thin 77mm plastic adapter ring (the largest in the pack) is extremely difficult to mount directly onto the lens. After some fiddling I was able to screw it on and mount the ring light on the outside…

Great ring LED flash for your Nikon camera!

I like to take a lot of close-ups, but without a flash or with the camera's built-in flash it's almost impossible to get a really decent shot. I bought an Aputure Amaran Halo Ring hoping to solve this problem. I have a Nikon D3100 camera. I've included three rough close-ups to show the difference between the following: 1. Using the camera's built-in pop-up flash, 2. Using a non-flash flash, 3. Using a ring flash. My camera has a Nikon 18-55mm zoom lens attached with a Kenko 36mm extension. The…
