AquaClear 20 Foam Filter Review

Used to change filtration on HOB filter (to hang on back) instead of disposable cartridges. Works great, easy to cut with scissors, doesn't crumble.

Suitable for 5 gallon planted aquariums. Keeps my water clean. Combine this with AquaClear Biomax and activated charcoal and you are done. Definitely save money in the long run.

I had to replace this sponge a month ago because it gets so dirty. I wash it every week because it gets dirty quickly and I only have 2 fantail goldfish and I feed them properly because there is very little or no food left in the gravel or filter to go in. However this filter is still better than the previous two I had, before that I had a Tetra filter and an Aquatek filter and they both broke after a few months, this one survived and does the job.

Bought this to replace the foam pad that I have long used in the high performance AquaClear 20 filter. Can be used straight out of the box. I just took an old foam pad and rinsed it with aquarium water. I then used the rinsed water from the old foam pad to soak the new foam pad for a minute or two before popping it into the filter. This way you will get some of the necessary bacteria in the new pad so you can prevent the aquarium from going into a new cycle or full cycle.
