Replaced material in fume hood

Used as a replacement for activated carbon in cooker hood filters. It's a lot cheaper than replacing the entire filter, so I'll probably do this more often. The granules are slightly larger than originally in the filters, but still fit in the filter and appear to work well. The dust makes the process a bit messy, but it's worth it. No complaints!

Pros
  • ****As with all charcoal fillers, always rinse well before use to remove excess dust until water runs clear. **Kindly Reminder: The mesh bag is inside the plastic bag.
Cons
  • Quality

Suitable for deodorizing clothing

Exactly as described. I actually bought them to get rid of the stench of a sweater that can't be washed without ruining it. I've taken it to the dry cleaner but it doesn't do much about the smell. I bought this, put it on the bottom of a rubber food container, covered the bag with a paper towel to keep dust off the sweater, put the sweater in the container, closed it, let it stand for two days and kept the sweater. :)

Pros
  • Phosphate-free. Safe for fresh and sea water tanks. Works fast and lasts long.
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Helps with musty odors

For some reason one of my bathrooms smells strongly of mold. I've read that using charcoal helps - and it really does. I also bought one for my kitchen. They sell the charcoal in cloth bags, which probably look more finished than these mesh bags, but I think the cloth leaves black dust when hung on the door. They do shed some dust but I put them in clear acrylic tubs and they look and work great. They have zippers so they can be easily refilled.

Pros
  • Ready-to-use media bag, convenient to use with canister filter, feed filter or pond filter.
Cons
  • I'll write later

Charcoal for fish and aquatic animals

It's coal! What can I say? What I don't know is what it's made of. Bamboo, coconut shells, willow peat, wood, coconut fibers, lignite, bituminous coal or petroleum tar. It didn't kill my fish so it must be good. My fish have been complaining since I've been using this stuff. I didn't see the disappointment on their faces. It comes in a package. So I bought some mesh bags and put about 2-3 tablespoons per bag in a 75 gallon aquarium. I'm sure there's a formula for the right amount of fish…

Pros
  • Packed in bags for easy handling and precise placement of charcoal and to prevent granular material from moving through pumps and pipes. Bag size: 8" x 5.5". Zippered mesh bag can be reused. The zipper is made of plastic.
Cons
  • Something else
