Charcoal for fish and aquatic animals

It's coal! What can I say? What I don't know is what it's made of. Bamboo, coconut shells, willow peat, wood, coconut fibers, lignite, bituminous coal or petroleum tar. It didn't kill my fish so it must be good. My fish have been complaining since I've been using this stuff. I didn't see the disappointment on their faces. It comes in a package. So I bought some mesh bags and put about 2-3 tablespoons per bag in a 75 gallon aquarium. I'm sure there's a formula for the right amount of fish charcoal per gallon, but I'm too lazy to spell google or Siri.
