They should not smell and smell strongly, they should neutralize unpleasant odors. Negative reviews are unfair and these little things work great. The citrus scent was a little too strong for me at first, but it's not a bad smell and will dissipate over time. I bought these to neutralize the musty smell my dresser leaves on my clothes and they work great.

As advertised, these little devices can be thrown around to cover up odors or freshen up a musty room. The smell is a little overpowering at first, but after a day or two it starts to steadily dissipate until after about two weeks you hardly notice it unless you get close - not that you have to get close. it, but still. Be careful, . um, when you throw laundry in the machine, you don't accidentally throw a ball to kill odors. :-)
