I am totally disappointed in this mic

Despite other positive reviews I am totally disappointed in this mic. Connected to a Galaxy 2547 base with a new battery, it does not produce as high modulation numbers as the standard microphone that came with the radio. Also, the gain knob on the back seems to have little to no effect on the modulation meter. I may have just stumbled upon a broken device, but it comes back once I find the right box for it.

PTT button works well with audio and video accessories

I have been using Astatic microphones since the mid 1970's and have been happy until this last purchase. The product arrived a few months ago and I've just tested it. This mic isn't worried about its performance as I had a history with Astatic. The PTT button requires attention. I'm not sure what the manufacturer can do for me right now, but I'd like to at least talk a little. thank you 73 .

  • works great for me
Cons
  • poorly thought out

The best portable, high-performance microphone ever made.

The best active handheld microphone ever made. Just try not to drop it. Most of the ones I had on my bench had fallen to the point where the derailleur was beyond repair and it's cheaper to buy a new one than have someone replace that derailleur. Astatic mics are notorious for switching issues and make great mics.

HOOMAH HOOM HOOK THINGS have changed

HOOMAH HOOM HOOK THINGS have changed in the last 20 years WOW Took this out of the box and not impressed at all, cheap junk compared to what it is was 20 years. Tried it on my Galaxy DX 959 and it was a mangled mess, checked the battery voltage it was fine (thought I had a bad battery), turned it all the way down on the back and it's still a mess. Plugged it into my hr2510 (using the 5 pin connector I had here) and it was the same. mumbo-jumbo. It's back in the box and on its way back for a…

Static waste for computer accessories and peripherals

I didn't like it. I have had several of these mics over a 20 year period and it is clear that the quality and loud sound are gone. Weak soldering is cheap junk. You would have to pay me to have another. I'm done

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • For retirees

I wanted to please, but the wires are dangling

I wanted a microphone like that. I knew it wouldn't be the highest quality, but it's basically unusable. I've been listening to my show on webSDR and it sounds awful: every time I move the cable a little there's a loud cracking sound. Gain adjustment did not help. I used tape to better secure the internal wiring and reduce movement at the interface between the cable and the mic, which helped a bit. But I still hear a lot of extra noise with a slight movement of the cable.

Pros
  • Computer accessories and peripherals
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Don't buy a new D-104

These new Astatic D-104 microphones are NOT the quality product they were 30 years ago. They were bought out by Roadpro and are cheap junk. Sure, it'll sound fine for a couple of weeks until the switch starts squeaking and then just stops working. The switch is soldered onto a 12-pin board and is just junk. You can try contact cleaner, 3-in-1 oil, etc. It won't help anyone. The PTT switch is just an afterthought that has nowhere to go. Google it and check it out. Don't waste money on it.

Let's talk in Computer Microphones

Excellent microphone, feels good in the hand and is good value. The fact is, a powerful microphone is the radio you plug it into. It worked very well on my first day and people reported that it sounded very good and clear. On the second day, he started squeaking when the call was turned on. After I ended the call, it started squeaking every time I pressed a button. So I was told that when Finns duel on the radio, don't use a strong microphone. Mine has four tips so I took it off and never used…
